A new beginning. A fresh start. A clean slate. A royal do over.
As the excitement over Christmas wanes, I begin to get amped for one of my favorite days of the entire year. January first is the clean slate in so many ways. I cannot count how many times I’ve heard people say ‘cannot wait for 2016 to be over’. This was a year that took its toll on so many people for various reasons.
As a nation, we’ve seen the deaths of our heroes, an election that shredded relationships and hearts and, finally, an attack in a nightclub that sucked the breath from all of us. There were moments of wonder as many watched the nail-biting Olympics events and cheered when the US accepted their gold medals, our nation stood still to watch the Cubs win the World Series for the first time in forever, scientist notified us that the ozone level was beginning to heal and we witnessed the gathering of souls at Standing Rock.
There were personal triumphs for me as well as incredible lows. I attended my first author events and actually sold books, and I met amazing people that have impacted my life. On the flip side, I gained much of the weight I had worked so hard to lose, lost some friends and questioned my place in the world within the political changes of our country.
What now …
I have filled out my 2017 planner, hung new calendars in various spots, cleaned my house, organized my home office to optimize my workflow, and I have written my intentions of the New Year. A friend came up with ‘intentions’ as opposed to ‘resolutions’ and I love it. I won’t bore you with my list of intentions but I will tell you that I hope to be a better person in the New Year. I intend to be a better daughter, friend, and most importantly, be better to myself.
So, I would like to wish you all a magical and safe New Year’s Eve and I hope 2017 is your very best year.
